About Me

As I sit here trying to decide how to describe myself, song lyrics from “One of Us” by Joan Osborne keep coming to mind: "just a stranger on the bus/ trying to make his way home." For the record, lest I be struck down by lightning, I am not trying to compare myself to God, but these lyrics resonate with me. The irony is that I am home—recently moved in with my parents after living in Florida for two years and getting my master’s degree—but I can’t kick the feeling that I’m just a woman who’s trying to make her way home. I find myself in my 29th year of life, waitressing a few days per week at a local breakfast diner, starting up a crafting business with my mother, and working on a book with a woman from my church who survived a Japanese prison camp in Indonesia during WWII. Generally I’m happy with life, but I crave to find myself in a more settled place with regards to my career, my finances, and a relationship. I believe that settled place I crave is the home I'm searching for. I suppose this blog, then, is about my journey as a stranger on the bus; a documentation of my experiences as I try and make my way home.
